The University of California, Berkeley, has shared a total of 11 Pulitzer Prizes between its staff, alumni and researchers. Its libraries cover a combined area of 12 acres and form the largest library complexes in the world. Author Irving Stone studied at Berkeley (BA 1923) and wrote the novel Lust for Life which was made into an Academy Award-winning film with Kirk Douglas.
