Liaoning Province's GDP per capita rose from 42,355 yuan (US$6,257) in 2010 to 50,253 yuan (US$7,781) in 2011. According to the Economist Magazine, Liaoning's GDP per capita in 2010 was close to that of Costa Rica (at purchasing-power parity).

Liaoning's GDP was as high as 2.2 trillion yuan (US$340.62 billion) in 2011, a 12.1 percent increase over 2010 at comparable prices, ranking 7th in the country. The number rose from 1.12 trillion yuan (US$147.29 billion) in 2007 to more than 2 trillion yuan (US$309.66 billion) in only 5 years. In 2011, Liaoning registered 20,467 yuan (US$3,169) in per capita disposable income of urban households and 8,297 yuan (US$1,285) in per capita net income of rural households, an increase of 15.5 percent and 20.1 percent respectively. Its GDP in 2011 exceeded that of Iran in 2010 at US$331.02 billion, which was ranked 29th in the world by the World Bank.
