Top 20 world's largest arms deals of 2012

Russia's Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT) released the 2012 top 20 weapon trades in the world based on the analysis of, with the exception of Russia itself, countries' large weapon orders, according to the Vpk.name report.

Among the top 20, India claimed six spots.

CAWAT is a non-governmental, independent research, information and publishing enterprise established in Moscow.

Qatar has signed a contract with Switzerland's Pilatus aircraft manufacturer in July of 2012 and has ordered a fleet of 24 PC-21 trainer planes as well as a package of ground-based training tools, logistical support and maintenance. According to the company, the deal is worth more than SFr600 million (US$607 million). The first delivery is scheduled for mid-2014.
