148 people have been left dead after an attack by Somali Islamists on the Garissa University College in northeast Kenya early on April 2, 2015. All attackers were killed by a SWAT team flown to Garissa.

The attackers targeted Christians. Witnesses said the gunmen said they were from al-Shabab, a Somali extremist Islamic group, and the group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said that the Garissa attack was to avenge the deaths of fighters killed by Kenyan troops in Somalia, and it warned that it will launch more attacks in Kenya.
