The annual passenger throughput of China's civil airport industry totaled more than 1.35 billion trips in 2019, an increase of 6.9% from the previous year, according to a new report released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on March 9, 2020.

As of 2019, there were 237 civil airports on the Chinese mainland, including four that were newly opened that year, including Beijing Daxing International Airport. Meanwhile, regular flight services were now running to 234 Chinese cities, according to the report.

Among them, 39 airports registered an annual passenger throughput of more than 10 million, which accounted for 83.3% of the passenger capacity of all domestic airports, down 0.3 percentage points from 2018, the CAAC data showed.

Beijing Capital International Airport handled more than 100 million passengers in 2019, making it the busiest airport on the Chinese mainland.
