Gunbing, which means "rolling on ice" in Chinese, is a traditional folk custom in Mulan county, Heilongjiang province. On the evening of the Lantern Festival (Jan. 15 on the Chinese lunar calendar), people light candles and place them in various shapes on the frozen river, before rolling on its surface.

According to locals, the practice is believed to help people avoid bad luck and disasters, while attracting good luck and happiness.
