Hunan transportation industry develops rapidly. In 2008, the freight turnover volume increased by 4.9%; the passenger turnover volume grew by 8.6%.
Road: At the end of 2008, Hunan had 182,005 kilometers road include village roads and among that, 2,001 kilometers are highway which ranked among the top 10 in China. The provincial capital city Changsha has been connected with 13 cities and counties in Hunan province through highway and all ferries on the Provincial roads in Dongting Lake district have been altered into bridges. These highways and roads radiate from Changsha, Yueyang, Changde, Xiangtan and Hengyang, forming a road network and covering 99% of Hunan territory.
Railway Hunan has a developed railway system. Six main railway lines including Jiangguang, Xiangqian, Zhegan, Xianggui, Shichang and Zhiliu pass through the entire Hunan province. The Hunan sects of Luoshen and Yuhuai lines have also been open to traffic.

Port Hunan’s water resource is abundant, having a inland river system of 11,968 kilometers, which is approximately one tenth of the total length of the inland river navigation in China. Hunan has produced a group of excellent TV series such as When We Were Young Students, which have become smash hits nationwide.
Hunan's mass media enterprise has considerable influence in China. Hunan television program is favored by audience from all over the country. A batch of self made excellent TV series and programs enjoy great popularity in the whole country. Rednet, the important news website in Hunan and Hunan On-Line are already among the top major local news websites in China and plan to get listed in 2009.
At the end of 2008, broadcast coverage rate in Hunan was 91.1%; TV coverage rate was 95.7%; there were 5.43 million cable TV household users, basically forming the mass media coverage network with coexisting modes of satellite, wireless and wired transmission.
