Hunan is a province with strong travel industry in China, having advantageous and unique travel resources, and the Hunan Travel Festival held in recent years has become one of the famous brands in China tourism industry. Last year, Hunan travel industry reached the best level in history, attracting 127 million domestic tourists with revenue of RMB 80.884 billion Yuan, respectively increased by 18 % and 18.7%; attracting 1.1102 million foreign tourists with foreign exchange earning of 617 million US Dollars, ranking first in 6 provinces in central China, total tourism revenue reaches RMB 85.175billionYuan, equals to eight percent of the total output value of whole province.

Located on the west of Xiangtan City, Shangshan is great leader Mao Zedong's hometown. Shaoshan is surrounded by green peaks and ridges with verdant pine and cypress, where are situated such scenic sites as former residence of Mao Zedong, exhibition hall of former residence of Mao Zedong, Mao Zedong bronze statue square, Mao Zedong library, Mao Zedong poetry steles, Shaoshan cemetery of revolutionary martyrs, Dishui hollow and so on. The former residence of Mao Zedong is the national key cultural relic preservation site, and as the national key scenic area, Shaoshan is also the No.1 project in the National Patriotic Education Base construction. In 2008, over 3 million domestic and overseas visitors have visited Shaoshan.
Wulingyuan scenic area Located in the middle of Zhangjiajie City, Wulingyuan is listed in the world natural heritage, composing with Zhangjiajie national forest park, Suoxiyu, Tianzishan Mountain and Yangjiajie. The main scenic area includes Huangshizhai, Jinbianxi, Huanglong Hollow, Baofeng Lake, Shili Gallery, Xihai, Baizhangxia, Suoxiyu, Jiangjunyan, Yubifeng Peak, He Long bronze statue Park and so on. Its quartzitic sandstone peaks and valleys landform is rare geological marvel in the world, having thousands of high steep peaks and strange stones with various postures. There also are many national minorities living here, such as Tujia, Miao and Yao, who wear unusual folk-costume, touching fairy tales and rich humanity sight, increasing the enchanting charm.
The southern peak of Mount Heng Located 45 kilometers north from Hengyang City, Mountain Heng is one of the five famous Chinese mountain peaks with a reputation of being "the most outstanding among the five." The southern peak is a famous Buddhism Holy Land and Taoism showplace in China, and also famed as "Civilization Area." It is also known as "the longevity mountain" with longevity culture of long standing. Mountain Heng has tiered up mountains with green jade and woods gully deep and serene, surrounded by cloud and fog with overpowering momentum. It has good scenery in all four seasons with flower market in spring, Clouds Sea in summer, sunrise in fall and the auspicious snow in winter. Peach Blossom Land Located in Taoyuan County, twenty three kilometers from Changde City, the Peach Blossom Land includes Taohua Mountain, Toayuan Mountain, Taoxianling Mountain and Qinren Village, among which Taohua Mountain and Qinren Village are the center of the Land, having seventy scenic sites such as Taohua Mountain Archway, Peach Blossom Brook, Peach Woods and so on. The well-known Peach Blossom Land benefits from the Tale of the Peach Blossom Spring written by famous poet Tao Yuanming (A.D. 365 – 427). This eternal article makes Peach Blossom Land a paradise for thousand years.
The Dongting Lake The Dongting Lake is the second biggest fresh water lake in China, which is usually praised as "the picturesque Dongting Lake with 400 kilometre span". The lakeside Yueyang Tower is one of the three famous towers south of the Yangtze River. The main tower has flying eave and helmet roof with wood construction in unique style. There is an island in the lake, named "Junshan," where in the legend two wives of Shun Di Emperor in ancient times, Ehuang and Nuying, died to be goddess of Xiangjiang River after searching thousands of miles for their husband. The vast lake, the famous burly tower, the mysterious island and the legend, all make the Lake a popular site in all decades. Furthermore, the widely known eternal sentence of “Be the first to worry about the troubles across the land, the last to enjoy universal happiness" is also out from A Panegyric of the Yueyang Tower, written by Fan Zhongyan more than 900 year ago.
Mausoleum of Yan Di Emperor It is the mausoleum of Yan Di Emperor, the first ancestor of China, located in Luyuanbei, 19 kilometers west of Yanling County, with an area of five square kilometers. The humanity landscape sites mainly include the Mausoleum Palace of Yan Di Emperor, Imperial Tablet Garden, Emperor Mountain Steles, Tianshi Mansion, Shenghuotai, Shennong Hall and so on. It is now a national key cultural relic preservation site, and the national patriotism education demonstration base.
Archaic Phoenix Town Located on the southwest of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, the Archaic Phoenix Town is once called “the most beautiful little Chinese town” by New Zealand renowned writer Louis Alley. It has beautiful scenery and centuries-old history, having lots of historical scenic sits. It is full of sentiment of a little border area town with ancient gate tower, blue flagstone alleys, garden of Ming and Qing Dynasties, wooden house projecting over Tuojiang River and small boat in the harbor. It is also the home town of Shen Congwen, a great Chinese literature master and Huang Yongyu, a traditional Chinese painting master. The Chinese ancient south Great Wall, which is searched by historians continuously, is also discovered here. As a Miao ethnic group community, it also retains the rich national character and style, like solar term events such as "April eighth," "Songfest," "Lanmen drinking" and so on, showing the honest, kindness and unconstrained elegant demean our of the Miao people.
