Former Residence of Soong Ching Ling

Soong Ching Ling Former Residence is located in Beijing's beautiful scenery Houhai North Street. The residence is full of various plants and surrounded by lakes and artificial mountains. It actually is a quiet elegant garden.

The residence covers an area of over 20,000 square meters including construction area of about 5,000 square meters. During the years, the residence was owned by chancellors or infante in the Qing dynasty, and its name was changed during the time. Aixinjueluo Puyi is the last Emperor in China. His father, Zaifeng was living in the garden. At that time, the residence was known as the "West Garden".

After the founding of the People's Republic, the government was planning to build a house for Soong Ching Ling in Beijing, but she politely refused. In 1962, with the permission of the Government, Premier Zhou Enlai arranged the residence for Soong Ching Ling. In April, 1963, Soong Ching Ling moved into the residence. She lived in the residence for 18 years till she was passed away on May 29th 1981.
