Tianchi Lake, at the top of Changbai Mountain, is covered with snow and ice from September each year. Changbai Mountain spans the border between China's Jilin Province and North Korea. It takes its Chinese name from the color of the winter snow and the white volcanic pumice scattered on its slopes. [Zhang Fang/China.org.cn]
