Mix

Shortly after Vics was established, Mix joined the fray. There certainly is overlap between the clientele of the two bars, but Mix tends to cater more to Chinese tastes than Vics. On weekends, foreigners make up about a fifth of the crowd.

With two reasonably large dance areas (mostly filled with booths), as well as one hidden in the basement, Mix is bigger and a bit flashier than Vics. The basement DJ seems to have a bit more flexibility to play whatever he or she wants, which includes some winners and losers. Even indie dance tracks like the Ting Tings' That's Not My Name can find their way onto the dance floor, adding variety for those who don't dig hours of pure hip hop on end.

The upstairs DJs mix hip hop that doesn't stray from the mainstream variety, and the track selection is pretty solid.

The crowd is slightly younger than Vics, and slightly older than the clubs on the strip of Gongti west. With less business suits and slightly less dolled up women, the environment seems more casual than most Gongti bars. Add to that places to sit that don't require additional payment, and you'll really start enjoying that Martini.

Friday night entrance fee*: Men --50 yuan, Women -- free. Additional charges for seating.
