Club Latte

Club Latte is the newest addition to the Gongti family, the spoiled brat of the bunch. The owners have lavished too much money and attention on this baby of the family, and now she thinks she's a little empress.

From the entrance hallway, she'll make you wait, and she'll frisk you good and proper before considering allowing you into her room. But your curiosity will be piqued as soon as you see the ornate wooden carvings, the maze of sculpted brass pipes, and fake industrial machinery: the industrial revolution before it became sooty.

Latte's style is epitomized in its brass chandeliers, which flicker in sync with the music. European 18th century style sofas and wood detailing contrast with the disco balls and spinning spotlights. Walls are adorned with spinning gears to further disorient drunken patrons. The attempts at decadence may even justify the highest drink prices in Gongti (45 yuan/beer).

For the moment, this is the place for beautiful people to see and be seen. If you are a woman with an affinity for fake eyelashes, who knows how to dance in leopard print high heels, then this is the place for you. Men look either wealthy or metrosexual: some of these guys who know hair stylists.

As for music, our princess hasn't forgotten her country, as she proudly belts out the Mandopop along with everything from Jay-Z to the horrible dance pop version of Happy Birthday.

Staff members are omnipresent, and have a history of treating foreigners horribly (and even violently), as entertainingly described online. Word to the wise: the chandeliers are obviously positioned too low, but please refrain from touching them.

Our Princess is the kind of person who's horribly selfish, not very cool, but none the less so popular that people just can't keep away. Even if you don't want to know her, you at least want to meet her, don't you?
