Taishan Mountain is located north of the city of Tai'an, in Shandong province. One of the 'Five Sacred Mountains' in China, Taishan Mountain has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.

The mountain lies some 40km south of the host city Jinan and has been considered the holy mountain because it is to the east, the direction from which the sun rises. [China.org.cn]
