"Sleep Boxes" in Xi'an Xianyang International Airport [Chinanews.com]

Xi'an Xianyang International Airport yesterday became the first airport in China to install "sleep boxes" at its terminals, with the majority of the 20 cubicles being located in terminals 2 and 3. The cubicles, which attracted great interest from passing travelers, offer a small resting space to transit passengers who are awaiting connecting flights.

The small cubicles, which occupy a total area of 3 square meters each and stand just 2.7 meters tall, are equipped with various functions and facilities, including a bed, linen, LED reading light, LCD TV, Wi-Fi, and space for your laptop and rechargeable phone.

Passengers can book a sleep box for as many hours as they need at the rate of 60 yuan for the first two hours and 40 yuan per hour from the third hour onwards.

Despite being new to Chinese airports, the sleep box concept is not a novel concept in global terms. In mid-August 2011, the first sleep box was installed at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport in the Aeroexpress terminal.
