Photo taken on June 13, 2013 shows the Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan, India. The Hawa Mahal, also known as Palace of Winds, is a landmark palace in Jaipur. It was built in 1799 from red and pink sandstone with the intention to allow royal ladies to observe life outside the palace. The lattice on the wall was designed to prevent them from being seen, since they followed strict face cover rules. The Hawa Mahal's five-storey exterior has 953 small windows, which together with the lattice provides cool air during the high temperatures in summers. (Xinhua/Zheng Huansong) |
