As part of the National Day celebrations, Taiwan Folk Customs Lantern Festival is set to take place at Chaoyang Park in Beijing from September 27 to October 7 to promote communication between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan. Visitors are able to appreciate delicious snacks, dazzling lanterns and a wide range of special activities from Taiwan.

A multitude of Taiwan artists have come all the way to Beijing to feast citizens' eyes on authentic Taiwan folk art. They will perform Gezai Opera, Budaixi Puppet Show, Drum Dance, electric music and so on.

Gezai Opera

Gezai Opera, also known as Xiang Opera, is a popular folk art in Taiwan which features plain libretto and lively melody and therefore enjoys tremendous popularity among local folks. To help the audience grasp the story, some of the lines will be adapted to Mandarin.

Budaixi Puppet Show

Budaixi Puppet Shows, typical of Taiwan puppetry, occur with puppeteers working in the background or underground. Tourists can enjoy various stunts, for example, somersaults of puppets performed by experienced puppeteers.

Drum Dance

Inspiring Taiwan Drum Dance will also be staged. Often performed during the Spring Festival and other joyful festivals, Drum Dance is a form of Taiwan folk art that combines enthusiastic music with powerful dance, conveying prayers and best wishes.
