A foreign media delegation has completed a three day tour from Sep 11 to 13 in Emei Mountain, a Buddhist holy place in Sichuan Province. More than 20 Chinese and foreign media visit the Golden Peak of Emei Mountain and Leshan Giant Buddha in Sichuan province and watch the martial performance during the tour.
The reporting tour, with "Mt.Emei in eyes of foreign media" as its theme, was launched by People's Daily Online, the Publicity Department of the CPC Leshan Municipal Committee and sponsored by People's Daily Online (Sichuan), the Administration Committee of Mt.Emei and the Publicity Department of the CPC of Emeishan City.
The event focus on promoting traditional Kung Fu culture as well as local tourism in Emei Mountain and Sichuan province.
Mount Emei, 127 km from Sichuan's capital of Chengdu, is one of Buddhism's four sacred mountains in China; the others are Wutai in Shanxi province, Jiuhua in Anhui province and Putuo in Zhejiang province. Buddhism reached the mountain about 2,000 years ago, and Mount Emei, with its approximately 30 monasteries, is a pilgrimage for Buddhists today.
At 48 meters high and weighing in at 660 tons, the colossal gilded bronze Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, or Pu Xian Bodhisattva, is an iconic structure on Mount Emei in Sichuan province. There is a temple located within the statue, enabling tourists to venture inside and purify their souls in the sacred Buddhist environment. Situated at the peak of Mount Emei at an altitude of over 3,000 meters, the site is actually the highest Buddhist statue anywhere in the world. As one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China, Mount Emei boasts 76 Buddhist monasteries,dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties, most of which are located near the mountain top.
