Chinese online travel company Ctrip.com said Thailand is set to top the destinations list for outbound Chinese tourists during the National Day holiday.

Bookings for Thailand for the period from Oct. 1 to 10 had increased 24 percent, and the total number of Chinese visitors is expected to reach 9 to 9.5 million this year.

The report said Thailand rose to the first choice as a result of the country's regulation of its tourism sector, including a crackdown on budget tours.

Thailand's tourism chief had estimated a recovery in the number of Chinese tourists in the fourth quarter, with a projected growth of 71 percent.

The average spending of Chinese travelers abroad is estimated to be higher than 8,000 yuan ($1,224) during the holiday from Oct. 1 to 8, according to a Ctrip.com report. Southeast Asia and Japan were also popular destinations.

The price of packaged tours to Thailand during the holiday period would be about the same as last year.
