An International Photography Exhibition featuring scenery of water town – Zhouzhuang, the historical water town in Jiangsu province – was first displayed in Palazzo Ca' Faccanon, Venice, Italy, from June 14.

The exhibition was part of cultural event series "Experience China" opened in Italy aimed at enhancing both the overall knowledge of China in Italy and the artistic exchange between the two countries.

Under the guidance of the State Council Information Office of China, the exhibition was organized by the information office of Jiangsu provincial government and China Intercontinental Communication Center.

Zhuang Rongwen, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited the exhibition.

The exhibition displayed the ancient town through the traditional silver salt print and modern high photographic technology.

Paola Mar, Venice's head of tourism, speaking at the opening ceremony, said China and Italy are both ancient civilizations with splendid cultural heritages, and the event would provide a platform to promote dialogue between Venice and Chinese water towns.

Han Hui, researcher of the State Council Information Office of China, addressed the opening ceremony and said the tourism and cultural exchange between two peoples went back to ancient times and a dazzling array of activities would deepen exchanges and cooperation and help enhance friendship between the two peoples.

"Experience China," launched in 1999, is a series of cultural events organized by the State Council Information Office of China with the aim to provide foreign audiences access to the Chinese culture.
