The inauguration ceremony of the Asia-Pacific Hotels Cooperation Forum opens in Chongqing on Sept. 27, 2018.

The Asia-Pacific Hotels Cooperation Forum opened in Chongqing on Sept. 27, foreshadowing epochal opportunities for real estate, hotel and culture-centered tourism along the routes of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Responding to the changing times, the theme for this year's meeting was: "A journey of thousands of miles with a broad landscape that secures a win-win situation for the Asia-Pacific Region."

Distinguished guests attending the opening ceremony were Wang Xinqiang, deputy chairman of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Artak Melkonyan, chief operating officer of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Impact Finance of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Zhao Zhengting, general-secretary of China Real Estate Chamber of Commerce (CRECC).

The forum saw the signing of agreements or expression of intent for a number of projects, such as hotels for cultural-centered tourism, new smart cities and hot spring resorts, with Chongqing's downtown Yuzhong District, with contracted investment totaling 100 billion yuan (US$14.56 billion).

The forum involved discussions between invited guests and the audience, a roundtable summit among high-ranking business leaders, president dialogues and professional panel sessions, and provided many insights on the industry's predicted future trajectory.

Exemplifying the roundtable summit chaired by Yang Honghao, deputy research fellow at the data center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, guest speakers shared their views on the present situation and future prospects of the real estate, cultural-centered tourism and hotel management sectors.

In the ensuing sessions, moderator Yu Xinhui, an anchorwoman of China Central Television, hosted the dialogue among the presidents of leading business groups on international hotels' brand building tactics in China, creative ideas about cultural-centered tourism, investments, funds, asset management and land leasing arrangements.

During a banquet, the host city staged a number of high-tech projections to provoke the imaginations of guests on every possible future of smart metropolises.

At the same time, the China Hotel Supply-side Industry Chain Fair (Fall) attracted many people to come to negotiate with their indigenous business counterparts on various cooperative deals. The fair ran in tandem with the negotiations and cooperation among businesspeople involved in the BRI. While providing services like booking or coordination, the platform has been enabled to extend a precise network linking funds and projects, brands and capital, talents and enterprises, investors and managers, as well as products and sales channels.
