A temple fair kicked off yesterday in Yongning historic town, in northwestern Beijing's Yanqing district, and will run until February 20.
Many kinds of Chinese folk art can be found at temple fairs, making them one of the most important activities for Beijingers during the Spring Festival, as well as a special cultural experience for foreigners.
As a celebration of the upcoming Spring Festival, which falls on Feb. 5 this year, the temple fair in Yongning offers traditional activities including a lantern fair, dragon and lion dance, land boat dancing and stilt walking. Visitors to the temple fair can also appreciate local traditional art such as paper cutting and handicrafts unique to Yongning, in addition to delicious local snacks.
Performance of comedic children's crosstalk and Chinese instruments will also add joy to the festive temple fair.
This year's lantern fair in Yongning also features attractions specifically dedicated to the Beijing International Horticultural Expo in 2019 and 2022 Winter Olympics, as Yanqing will host the upcoming Expo in 2019 and also host part of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
