Group wedding held at Shengjing Grand Theatre

A group wedding of 70 couples was held at Shengjing Grand Theatre in Shenyang city, northeast China’s Liaoning province recently.

The theatre was chosen as the wedding venue because its shape resembles a big diamond, which symbols forever love.

The wedding ceremony, jointly organized by relevant municipal government and non-government agencies, was aimed to promote frugal weddings and positive family values.

As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, 70 out of the 82 couples who had applied for the event were chosen to take part.

The 70 couples sang the song "My motherland and me" on the occasion as a way to mark the 70th anniversary.

95-year-old veteran Lv Pin, who was also one of the “People Who Moved Shenyang” in 2018, was the chief witness at the wedding ceremony.

The wedding was also designed to promote the Shenjing Grand Theatre and other landmarks along Shenyang’s mother river, the Hunhe River, as a romantic place, an ideal site for outdoor wedding ceremony and a honeymoon destination.

This was the second time such a group wedding was held.
