The city of Jiaxing in east China's Zhejiang Province, a place famous for its southern-style zongzi or glutinous rice dumplings, will hold a folk culture festival around the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, local authorities said.

The cultural festival will start in late May and last until early June to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival which will fall on June 7 this year, according to a news briefing on Wednesday.

Traditional activities such as dragon boat racing, rice dumpling making, sachet making and temple fairs will be held.

Cities along the Grand Canal will also be invited to this year's festival to present their folk culture, local specialities and intangible cultural heritage from June 7 to 9.

The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the year according to the Chinese lunar calendar.
