Northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region opened Wednesday its first museum to introduce the historical evolution of Mongolian languages.

The museum, named after Tata-Tonga who created the traditional Mongolian alphabet some 800 years ago, displays five writing systems involving over 20 different Mongolian languages used by local ethnic groups.

About 500 precious historical artifacts, books and rock paintings recording Mongolian languages are on display at the museum which covers nearly 1,150 square meters.

The museum also functions as a significant base for the study and research of Mongolian languages.
