A direct air route will be launched on Dec. 9 between Dunhuang city, northwest China's Gansu Province, and Cambodia's Siem Reap, a local airport said Saturday.

The flight, which will be operated each Monday from Dec. 9 to Feb. 24, 2020, departs Siem Reap at 3:00 p.m. local time and lands in Dunhuang after six hours and 35 minutes of flying.

The outbound flight takes off from Dunhuang at 10:35 p.m. Beijing time, with a flight duration of four hours and 55 minutes.

The new air service is expected to promote tourism and cultural exchanges between the two cities, according to He Yanhong, an official with Dunhuang's bureau of tourism and culture.

Both on the UNESCO World Heritage List and historic sites of Buddhist art, the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang and Angkor Wat in Cambodia have attracted countless tourists worldwide, showing people the charm of ancient art.
