Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region's another 5 towns and 3 villages have recently been awarded the status of National Ecologically Well-Preserved Towns and Villages by the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

The region also added 14 towns and 22 villages ecologically recognized by the regional government, with 200,000 yuan (US$31,737) awarded for each ecological town and 50,000 yuan for each ecological village.

Since 2007, Ningxia has registered 145 ecological towns and villages named by the central or regional government, of which there are 14 national ecological towns and 9 national ecological villages.
