
This is the photo of the ruins of the Great Wall from the Ming Dynasty in Yuding town, Zhongning County, Ningxia Autonomous Region. Since ancient times, Ningxia has combined nomadic and farming cultures and has been known as the “Defense for Guanzhong Area, Throat of Helong Area”. The construction of the Great Wall in Ningxia began in the Warring States Period and was continued by succeeding dynasties, such as Qin, Han, Sui and Ming. The Great Wall in Ningxia is in different forms having been constructed using different materials and, as a result, Ningxia is renowned as the “Museum of the Great Wall of China”.
The Great Wall in Ningxia mainly consists of four parts: the east line, the west line, the north line and the Neibian line in Guyuan city, with a total length of 1,507 kilometers. In Ningxia, a large number of ruins with tremendous archaeological, historical and cultural value have been found, including visible walls with a total length of 517.9 kilometers, 589 battle towers, 237 balefire stages and 25 bastions as well as ancient shops, entrenchments and triangle-shaped cellars.
