Reports on Saturday read that the “Gathering place of the Culture of Chinese Hui Nationality” has been established in Yongning County of Yingchuan in Ningxai Hui Autonomous Region. Walking down the “Hui Cultural Street” here, there are only several tourists to be spotted during the low season.

The shops promoting Hui Embroidery, Arabic calligraphy and Hui clothing attract the eye. The number of Muslim restaurants scattered across the street is also quite impressive.

A Hui woman called Ma Rongxiang owns a snack bar on the street; she sells traditional Hui snacks, such as rang pi, fried sanzi and huahua.

The Hui Cultural Street is situated near the 400-year-old Najiahui mosque and the Chinese Hui Cultural Park -- the main scenic spots for Hui culture. It is considered a scenic spot for its presentation of the Hui history, culture, architecture, arts, traditions and customs.

The Ayisha Hui Folk Art Troupe was established in 2009, aiming to present the traditional Hui folk arts, such as the Hui ballad called “Huaer,” a Hui instrument called the niwawu and Hui dancing.

Ningxai Hui Autonomous Region is one of five provincial ethnic minority autonomous regions. Some 2.29 million Hui residents live here, accounting for one third of the total population of the autonomous region.
