Birdlife flourishes on the Xinghai lake, Dawukou District, Shizuishan city in Ningxia. Xinghai Lake was formerly marshland filled with sewers, waste water and rubbish. Substantial efforts have been made in recent years to transform the lake and improve the environment of Shizuishan, which used to be an industrial base featuring coal mines.
