Covering a total area of 3,000 mu (200 hectares), the base in Zhongwei City will feature 1.2 million servers and an 12.8-square-kilometer high-tech industrial zone.

During the first phase of the project, 200,000 servers will be built, with a total investment of 9.5 billion yuan (US$1.55 billion), which is expected to bring the newly added industrial output value to12 billion yuan.

The base plans to introduce leading enterprises both from home and abroad, and build a business chain covering cloud equipment, applications and service.

Ningxia has resources, environment, and policy advantages for building the cloud computing base.

The average amount of power generated per capita in Ningxia ranks first in the country; the region is centrally located and is a transport hub, it has stable geological structures; the region has been approved by the State Council as an inland open economic trial area.

Zhongguancun Science and Technology Industrial Park, Beijing's technology hub which has been dubbed China's Silicon Valley, is helping to build the base. The first projects have been started.
