Located in Heishui County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, Dagu Glacier Scenic Area has a planned sightseeing area of 210 square kilometers and a nature reserve of 632 square kilometers. It is the third major scenic area Aba has developed after Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. Dagu Glacier had remained unknown to the outside world until 1992 when a Japanese scientist discovered it among the high mountains through a satellite. After a week-long inspection tour in August the same year, the scientist determined it to be the lowest-lying, largest and youngest glacier in the world. It also boasts the shortest distance to a city of all the glaciers in the world as well as the most diversified sights. [Photo by Liu Jie/China.org.cn]
