“Beautiful China, more than pandas,” a campaign organized by Sichuan to promote its diversified tourism resources worldwide, was carried out at Osaka, Japan on December 8.

Osaka was the first top of Sichuan’s tourism promotional tour in Japan under the campaign.

The Osaka event started with a“giant panda” flash mob in KINTETSU, the largest department store in Japan. People dressed like giant pandas danced during the flash mob.

The promotional event was attended by officials from China National Tourism Administration and the Sichuan Airlines Osaka Office.

With the highest level of recognition among all the symbols of Sichuan, giant panda was the main element of decoration for the promotional site. Many shoppers and tourists were attracted to the site and posed for pictures with the people who dressed like giant pandas. Promotional materials and small gifts were also distributed during the event.

Face-changing, a stunt of Sichuan Opera and a national intangible cultural heritage of China, was also staged to entertain the crowd. The performance, together with a“Q&A”session about travelling in Sichuan and an on-the-spot lucky draw, brought the whole event to a climax.

A DIY area was also set up for people of different ages to paint white porcelain pandas in colors they like.

The campaign will also be carried out in Tokyo.
