Ceremonies including traditional way of water discharge for spring irrigation were hosted on April 4, one day ahead of the Tomb Sweeping Day this year, to mark the great Dujiangyan irrigation system of more than 2,000 years of history in use and Qin State government official Li Bing who led the construction of the project during Warring States period (475-221 BC). Instead of simply building a dam on the magnificent Minjiang River, the most important water source for Chengdu Plain, the creative water conservancy system harnesses the river by channeling and dividing the water and has turned the previously flood-prone areas into a land of abundance ever since its establishment.
