Some 10 kilometers from the seat of Guangyuan city in northern Sichuan, where it borders Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, the Tianzhao Mountain national forest park offers lush vegetation among rolling peaks and rich biodiversity including dozens of rare species under national protection such as macaque and Chinese dove tree. The mountain is culturally important for its rich Buddhist and Taoist heritage, including the Fantian Temple first built in Wei Dynasty (220-265), and its association with Wu Zetian (624-705), the only Empress in Chinese history who was born in Guangyuan and visited the mountain at young ages.
