Santa could be humming the tune of "Believe" by Finnish rock band Negative as he delivers presents next Christmas.

The song emerged as the winner of the Santa Claus Season's Greetings Song Contest 2012, jointly organized by Radio86, the Santa Claus Foundation, China Internet Information Center and China Radio International.

"Believe" by Finnish rock band Negative is the winner of the Santa Claus Season's Greeting Song Contest 2012.

According to results announced on Wednesday, the one-month online contest remained tight until the very end, with "Believe" ending up with 41 percent of the votes, topping "Blessed with Love" by Saara Aalto with 38 percent and "Zhong Guo Ren" by Semmarit with 21 percent.

"I think that this means that more and more people will become familiar with our music," said Negative's singer Jonne Aaron, who represented the five-member band and received the award in Tampere, Findland.

"Metaphorically speaking it also means that Santa Claus really has the magic touch to make our skis glide faster – all the way to China and around the world. I actually thought that Saara Aalto, who sang beautifully in Chinese, would win."

Saara Aalto said she was excited about so many people seeing her video for the song "Blessed with Love," or "Ai De Zhu Fu" in Chinese.

"I think the video came out very well even though we had very little time to plan it, and I think the end result is just so beautiful," she said. "I'm so happy that people can see that."

Turkka Saarikoski from Semmarit said the choir was happy to be able to sing to Chinese people in their own language.

"It was a lot of fun and we liked this song. We know and understand the meaning of the lyrics, so it really makes us feel proud to be able to sing this song for the Chinese people."

Ten lucky voters will each receive copies of all three artists' CDs.

The contest was part of a campaign to promote Finland in China as Santa's home, with a Finnish Santa Claus touring 29 Wanda shopping centers in 20 Chinese cities.
