Erected in 940 during the Five Dynasties, the Xizhou Copper Pillar set as a war covenant made between the emperor of Chu, Ma Xifan and Peng Shichou, prefectural governor of Xizhou. As Ma imposed excessive taxes and levies in Hunan Province, Peng called the local people to revolt. Finally, they divided their areas and promised that they would never attack each other.
