Yacht boom in Qingdao as incomes rise

The number of registered yachts in Qingdao totaled 150 units last year, of which 70 units are big yachts, according to the Qingdao Municipal Public Security Bureau. The number of registered yachts was only 15 in 2008. As the leading city of Shandong Province, Qingdao is the regional economic center, international shipping center and manufacturing center. With the rapid economic development and of the rise of ultra-high-income residents in Qingdao, the yacht industry, which supplies one of the most well-known high-end luxury items, has developed at a landmark pace. Ma Guanqun, the manager of the Qingdao International Yacht Club, said Qingdao's natural harbor has ideal sea conditions for yachting. The Olympic Sailing Center features the largest yacht dock in the north of China. Qingdao now hosts more than 20 yacht manufacturing companies such as Qingdao nauticstar marine Co., Ltd, LINGBO Marine and Qingdao Matsumoto Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
