Jiaozhou Economic Development Zone attracted new high-tech enterprises to build workshops in recent years to strengthen its core competitiveness.

The zone will develop high-end and advanced manufacturing industries with Haier household appliances playing the leading role, according to its management committee. The Haier household appliances workshop is planned to occupy 920,000 square kilometers and realize an investment of 5 billion yuan (US$ 788,500,000). After the entire production line is put into operation, the annual operating income is estimated to reach 50 billion yuan.

The cold chain new high-tech industrial park launched by China International Marine Containers (Group) Co., Ltd will begin an expansion program in the zone this year. With an investment of 5 billion yuan, the park will feature product research, development and manufacturing, personnel training and academic seminars.

The management committee said that the annual production values of cold chain, high-end equipment manufacturing, motors and electric appliance and biological pharmacy could reach 15 billion, 20 billion, 60 billion and 3 billion yuan, respectively. Until now there have been 15 state-level research and development centers and more than 20 scientific laboratories in the development zone.
