The city of Qingdao plans to create another 23 wetland parks before 2020, according to a preliminary plan entitled “Building a National Forest City in Qingdao,” released on January 31.

The city also plans to construct a demonstration project in wetland protection and restoration, and to make the city’s forest coverage reach over 30 percent in 2020.

A newly approved Shandong Province Wetland Protection Regulation will take effect starting from March 1 this year. Those who destroyed wetlands at random may face a maximum fine of 30,000 yuan.
