Temple fair kicks off in Qingdao

The Xinzheng Temple Fair, with a history of over 500 years, will be held at the Mazu Temple in Qingdao, Shandong province, on Chinese lunar New Year's Eve, which falls on Feb. 9 this year.

A bell ringing ceremony will be held at the fair for blessing and prayers.

The fair will run from Feb. 9 to 24 at the temple. Various activities and traditional folk performances will be held at the fair such as sugar painting, paper-cutting, lantern riddles, dough figurines and wood engravings.

A series of local operas will be also performed at the temple fair which will showcase traditional Qingdao customs.
