As temperatures climb, Qingdao’s seagulls, the city’s perennial winter guests, will fly north to breed in cooler climes.

Reporters sighted tens of thousands seagulls gathering in the Xiaomaidao sea area April 17th, as they congregated to hunt for fish before flying off in formation, blanketing the sky.

The species of seagull most common to Qingdao are the black-headed gull, silver gull and black-tailed gull. The black-headed gull is the only migrating species.

Bird expert Wang Ximing told reporters that the seagulls would leave from Qingdao for Siberia around April 25th to breed the next generation.
