The number of agro-products with geographical indications in Pingdu county, Qingdao has amounted to 19 after the wheat brand Liaolan passed Agriculture Ministry's appraisal on Oct 26.

The addition of Liaolan Wheat into the AGI system means that a total of 200 square kilometers of land in Liaolan and Cuijiaji towns will be put under protection as the growing area for the wheat brand.

The protected area lies between the Jiaozhou Bay to the south and Laizhou Bay to the north. This unique geographical location provides an environment for wheat plants to enjoy long grain filling period, without being affected by hot, dry winds, and increase yields as the result.

Advanced farming techniques are applied in the process of growing the Liaolan Wheat, which contains high content of protein and yields more flour.

In 2016, branded agro-products in Pingdu realized output value of 3.52 billion yuan.
