Automation facilitates productivity improvement at shipping port

The single crane handling capacity of the fully automated container terminal has increased to 39.6 moves per hour since the terminal has been put into use at the Qingdao Port in Qingdao, Shandong in May.

 

This new record was achieved during the handling operation of the container ship Zim Chicago, when 1,785 moves or 2,753 TEUs were handled in nine hours and five minutes ending at 9:25 am in the morning of Dec. 3.

 

The Captain of the ship, Grocholewicz vouched for the information and expressed appreciation towards the operator of the terminal – Qingdao New Qianwan Container Terminal Co.

 

The automated container terminal has experienced remarkable growth. When the operation started in May, the single crane handling capacity was 26 moves per hour, and by November it improved to 35 moves per hour.

 

Now the terminal aims to maintain the average efficiency at 40 moves per hour and above, according to New Qianwan's general manager Zhang Liangang.
