Other events have been staged in New York, Rome and Paris.

Jordan's Princess Haya, a United Nations Messenger of Peace, and Pavarotti's widow helped organize the concert.

Nicoletta Pavarotti, wife of Luciano Pavarotti, said, "I hope that everyone will remember Luciano for a great artist, but even for a great human being, because Luciano was really special, and this is something that I don't think there can be another one. Maybe there will be another great voice, but with the charisma and with the love for people he had inside, because I think this is what people get, he was really loving anyone in the audience, each of them was loved by Luciano because he loved the world, he loved life."

The proceeds of the concert will all go to charity, benefiting Afghan refugees and helping the local community in Petra.

Fellow tenor Placido Domingo was moved. Placido Domingo said, "It really feels very, very emotional, very moving. I think that we are all here remembering Luciano and working for a noble cause, you know, and I think it was very emotional to sing with Jose now, remembering him, a song that we have sung together, and just to participate in this magic place."

Jose Carreras, opera singer, said, "He was an extraordinary man. Very spontaneous, very rich personality, very communicative and very profound and deep when necessary. I am very proud to say that I think we had a very close relationship, a very good friendship and, as I said, I'm proud and happy that I have been close to him."

This was the first time the two surviving members of the Three Tenors have sung together since Pavarotti's death.

Luciano Pavarotti died, September 6, 2007 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
