Travellers and photographers were also drawn to the village of Wuyuan in Jiangxi province.

Waterfalls add to the beauty of Dazhang Mountain, located to the north of Wuyuan. Travellers walked along wooden bridges, enjoying their encounter with Mother Nature.

Revellers in Chongqing municipality in southwestern China headed to the ski slopes near the city to enjoy something they rarely experience.

A tourist said, "I haven't gone skiing before. This is my first time. It's a novel experience for me."

The city of Sihezi in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the country's northwest, is hosting an ice and snow festival. It opened on Tuesday as snowflakes were falling. The highlights of the event are the dozens of ice sculptures there. Some take the shape of Tian'anmen square, the Water Cube or even some local cultural signs.

The festival will also feature a sports meeting on ice, and a skiing competition which will entertain locals and visitors alike in about two months' time.
