The American Ballet Theatre will travel to Cuba for two performances at Havana's Karl Marx Theatre in November. They will be the company's first shows on the island in 50 years.
The company's executive director Rachel Moore described the opportunity to perform in Cuba as "truly a dream come true." The company is among the places where Cuban prima ballerina Alicia Alonso got her start seven decades ago.
The last time the company visited Cuba was in 1960 to mark the inaugural instalment of the Havana International Ballet Festival. This year marks the 22nd edition of that festival.
