The southern Chinese city of Guangzhou plans to continue traffic restriction measures, which kept up to 800,000 cars a day off the roads during the Asian Games.
Under the even-odd license plate method, cars in the city are banned from roads from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on alternate days, based on the last digit of their license plate. The measures were put in place for the Asian Games and the Asian Para Games. But after the conclusion of the Games, Guangzhou witnessed an increase in traffic congestion. Guangzhou has about 2.1 million vehicles on its roads.
