In the US, a piece of mail addressed to the head of Homeland Security ignited at a postal facility in Washington, D.C.
A local TV station reported that a mail sorter was tossing mail into a bin when the package spontaneously ignited. No one was injured. Officials said the letter was addressed to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
A second suspicious package was also reported, but it did not ignite. It follows similar incidents in nearby Maryland, where two packages erupted in smoke and flames in the mailrooms of two state buildings.
