Every year, the arrival of winter puts a strain on the logistics industry in Tibet. Trains and trucks are responsible for supplying food and goods to those living on the world’s highest plateau.

Golmud station is the largest transit point along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. Every day, five cargo trains depart for Lhasa carrying grain and vegetables. With the transportation volume increasing by 24-percent annually, Golmud station is now planning to expand to satisfy demand. Besides the train, the Sichuan-Tibet Highway gets busy with thousands of trucks ensuring sufficient supplies throughout the long and cold winter.
