CPPCC concludes annual session

China's top political advisory body, the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), concluded its annual session in Beijing Tuesday morning.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the closing meeting at the Great Hall of the People.

Top Communist Party of China (CPC) and state leaders Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang were in attendance.

The session, opened on March 3, approved the report on the work of the Standing Committee of the 11th CPPCC National Committee over the past year.

By 2 p.m. on March 8, CPPCC National Committee members had submitted 6,069 proposals concerning the country's scientific development and the transformation of economic pattern.

A meeting will be held on March 19 to transfer the proposals to 175 related departments and units for further handling.

The CPPCC is an organization of the patriotic united front of the Chinese people. It is an important organization of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC.

It is composed of the CPC, other political parties, mass organizations, different ethnic groups and representative public personages from all walks of life, representatives of compatriots of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao as well as of returned overseas Chinese and other specially invited people.
